GERRY JOE WEISE - Live In Paris CD

Subtitled "Cosmic Blues at Le Cadran", this well recorded and produced CD, presents Australian guitarist and vocalist Gerry Joe Weise who has been a resident in France. Three Jimi Hendrix covers figure on the track list, as well as the majority of Weise originals where some are Hendrix influenced. Without a doubt, Gerry Joe Weise is an excellent guitarist, with a tried and tested technique, nimblefingeredness, while staying clear and precise. All guitar fans should be filled with joy by this CD. Gerry Joe Weise is the real deal, a real bluesman.

GERRY JOE WEISE - Live In Paris CD

From the ringing first notes reverberating across the Cadran Hall in Paris (Jimi Hendrix played there in 67), Gerry Joe Weise opens the new CD release with "Hear My Train A Comin", alone on stage. He then transposes into "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" as he is joined by the bass and drums for what is a hale and hearty rendition, with one of the best guitar solos I have ever heard ! "Stratus" penned by Billy Cobham is an all-out jazz-rock number with a drum solo at full pelt. Moving into a more bluesy repertoire for the next five numbers composed by Weise : we have the Texan shuffle "Way Out", the exciting jazz-blues "Blueswalker" with yet another emotionally vigorous guitar solo. "Slidewater Shuffle" an unconventional cajun on slide guitar exploring new sonorities, with excellent drum and bass solos. "Purple Power" is a psychedelic jazz-meets-rock-meets-blues experience, "Stormy Sydney" is Weise's slow blues classic. Gerry Joe's "Freedom" is a funky Hendrix interpretation, that rounds off the 1994 Paris performance.

The bonus tracks, are originals written by Gerry Joe Weise, and recorded live at the 1995 Chapelle Blues Festival in Belgium. Starting with the very short intricate and eccentric country instrumental number "Kangaroo Hop", next is the ever popular animated shuffle "Broken Hill Blues" where the crowd sings along with the trio. "Dusty Ol' Tamworth" is a showcase for alternative psycho-country playing, while the final cut "Southern Cross" is a heartfelt graceful event. There are several amazing solos by guitar, bass and drums, outstanding talent never overplaying, a marvellous live blues album.
